THEME: THE RELIABLE RECORD OF THE BIBLE CONCERNING THE CURRENT GEOLOGY OF EARTH
FOLLOWING THE GREAT FLOOD. THE MECHANICS OF THE GREAT FLOOD CITED IN GENESIS AND
CONFIRMED IN JOB. THE COMFORTING ASSURANCE OF THOSE WHO ARE IN CHIRST THAT IN
MESSIAH WE ARE THE HEIRS OF GOD TO THE EARTH AND TO ALL THINGS.
FIRST:
The matter of the “ancient-and-young” realities of the creation are reconciled by the difference
between the Transcendent View of God during the first cycles of creation and the impartation
of the neshamah to humanity in Genesis 2 at the end of the creation cycles, at which time the
point of view became that of humanity “under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes) This is well explained by
Gerald Schroeder as documented in my book DESIGNED LIFE: Reflections of a Theologian
(Hebraic Heritage Press, 2021, Atlanta, Georgia). Keeping this in mind provides the context for
the “recent” changes to the geology of earth in the days of Noah (Genesis 6-9).
SECOND:
It should impress the mind that the ancient testimony of humanity to the core factuality of the
earth’s recent history immediately after the Great Flood is preserved in the Bible in Genesis 6-
11. It is also significantly preserved in the Book of Job—the man who lived very early in the
repopulating phase of the earth and who had a visitation from God that disclosed many facts
and metaphysical truths about creation, especially in chapter 38 seq. This ancient testimony of
man has been corroborated with regard to the Great Flood in every ancient civilization of
humanity world-wide, including such renditions as the Gilgamesh Epic. But it has been
especially preserved with accuracy in the divinely inspired record of Genesis.
THIRD:
It should be noted that Catastrophic Geology explains why sedimentary rock covers ca. 85% of
the surface geology of earth*, a fact that implies a world-wide immersion of earth in
water—corresponding to the narrative of the Global Flood of the Bible. It also explains why
there are fossils on the tops of mountains world-wide. The tectonic theories of evolutionary
geologists come up against inversions in layers of rock that are too difficult to explain by vast
evolutionary ages of slow processes of uplift. Catastrophic geology explains the severe features
of earth geology (such as the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA) whereas evolutionary theories like
the carving of the Grand Canyon out of the deep layers of rock-substructure of earth by the
erosion of the Colorado River over millions of years are fanciful and insufficient. The rapid
breaking, gouging, scarring and eroding effects of the violent tectonics of the Global Flood are
collectively the only sufficient explanation for the Grand Canyon of Arizona. In the catastrophic
biblical account is the record of the breakup of the miles-thick rock formations that held the
subsurface reservoirs of water in vast vaults around the globe. The rupture of that mantle, the
resulting geyser’s and atmospheric downpours (that eroded masses of land in rapid depositions
and left behind severe formations) and the deep splitting of “pangea’s” structure which
separated the single mass of surface land into the present continents of earth are recorded in
the Bible.**

FINALLY:
These background considerations bring us to the simple fact noted in this devotion:
The fountains of the Great Deep were broken up in the Great Flood of Noah. This is testified to
and confirmed by God as he spoke to Job concerning the closing phase of the Flood in chapter
38:8, saying, “Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth, as if it had issued out of
the womb?” The breaking up phase is described in Genesis 7:11 where it is written, “In the six
hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the
same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were
opened.”
In my book is a citation and summary of “The Hydroplate Theory” of Dr. Walt Brown* who used
the simple fact of the global rupture of the rock mantle which separated the subterranean
waters of earth from the surface waters of the earth of original human occupation to explain
how the violent tectonics of the Great Flood transformed the geology of the pre-Flood earth
into what it is today.

It should comfort us to know that God is in charge of both the history and the future of
earth. It is our habitat. It was designed for us. And we can settle our hearts in the assurance
that our Creator God is faithful to provide for all our needs according to his riches in glory by
Christ Jesus—The Creative Word of God Incarnate “by whom all things were made, and without
whom was not anything made that was made.” (John 1) Even the seas obey him. (Mark 4:39-
41). The transcendent riches of Christ include his possession of the Title Deed to Creation, even
to our amazing Earth! (Book of Revelation, chapters 4-5, seq.) And since we are joint-heirs with
him, the Earth and all things have become ours too as inheritors of God with Messiah.
