THE THEME OF THIS DEVOTION IS:
We must listen attentively and responsively to the Voice of the Lord Jesus so that we may hear his knock on the door of our hearts and open to him that he may commune with us.
At the end of King Messiah’s preparation of the seven churches of Revelation 2-3 for his soon coming, he then speaks to every human being and says,
“Behold! I stand at the door [of your heart and mind] and knock. If any man (any person) hear my voice and open the door, I will come into him (into her) and sup with him (with her), and he (she) with me.” (Revelation 3:20, expanded)
This is a universal call to humanity.
The opening line of the parashah’s poem of Moses says,
HA’AZINU HASH’SHA’MAIM VA’A’DA’BEI’RAH
Give ear O Heavens and I will speak
VE’TISH’MA HA’ARETZ IM’REI-PI
And let the Earth the utterance of my mouth
This is the call to all realms:
the realm of the supernal world in eternity
and the realm of the created order below.
And we here sitting in our elevated station as regents of the Kingdom on High
are listening to know what to do in the presence of His Exalted Majesty.
For Moses in his exhortation said to the children of Israel,
In Deuteronomy 30:19-20,
“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live,
“That you may love the LORD your God, and that you may obey his voice, and that you may cleave unto him:
for he is your life, and the length of your days:
that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore unto your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”
So then, He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying unto the Community of the King.
And let us all say,
Come Lord Jesus! Dwell in my heart! Reign in my life forever!
