Deuteronomy 26:17 (in context)
ET-YHVH HE’EH’MAR’TA HA’YOM LI’HI’OT LE’CHA LEI’LO’HIM VE’LA’LE’CHET BID’RA’CHAIV VE’LISH’MOR CHUK’KAIV U’MITZ’VO’TAV U’MISH’PATAV U’LISH’MA BE’KOL’O
You have avouched the LORD this day to be your God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken to his voice….
This great word between Moses and the People bonded God and the People to one another by the Ways and Word of the Lord (his statutes, commandments and judgments) and by hearkening unto the LORD’S Voice. In Christian theology, this is the Logos and the Rhema of God: the WORD of God as Absolute, and the Breathed Word of God, Voiced by his Spirit.
The one is the other: the WORD Absolute is the WORD Voiced when the Spirit makes it alive in the ear of your inner being. As the Lord Jesus said in John 16:13-15, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you. All things that the Father has are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.”
The Spirit who speaks Rhema into your heart speaks the Logos of Messiah into you. As the Apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 3:17-18, “Now the Lord is the Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” The identity of the Son’s Logos with the Spirit’s Rhema is absolute: the Blessed Holy Spirit who is given by promise to us from the Father comes to us through the Son and makes manifest in us the fulness of God, which fulness is in Christ the Son, the WORD of God made flesh. (Colossians 1:19, with context; John 1:1-14)
We are bonded to God by His Word and his Voice. When you received Jesus into your heart as Savior and Lord, God raised up your spirit from its dead state. (Titus 3:5) You have been redeemed from the benumbing bondage of sin. God has breathed into your heart his dear Holy Spirit. (John 20:20) Now you are able to HEAR the Voice of the Holy Spirit SPEAKING RHEMA WORD into your ear, which Word he deposits there like holy seed into your heart. Let it take root. Water it. Ponder it. Perform what it teaches. In doing so, you are bonded more-and-more to your precious Savior and through him to our blessed Father—GOD.
Shalom L’Cha, Dodi.
(Peace to you, my beloved.)
